Some portraits from the Mughal albums are not of specified individuals, but of types. This portrait depicts an ideal young courtier, accompanied by swans and rabbits. The style of the work is Persian in origin, but is translated through the vibrant painting style of the Indian Deccan.  Notice how the outer border is understated. The inner border mixes calligraphy with leafy tendrils, setting the stage for the colorful painting.
