Roxy Paine: Scumaks and Dendroids concluded on August 29, but three Scumaks will remain–all generous gifts from the artist. Jan Schall, Sanders Sosland Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, selected five Scumaks from the 44 produced during the exhibition. In spirited voting from this short list, three Scumaks were chosen for the collection by the public, Museum staff/volunteers and Museum Trustees.

With its bold, overlapping forms that flow in three directions, extending beyond and drooping over the pedestal edge, this Scumak conveys a gracious, expansive liquidity. A chute descends from the top of the mound to its lower right, evoking the speed and spirit of water slides and saucer rides down snowy hillsides.
