Download Some Art

Another sign that the museum world is starting to join the 21st century: the Nelson-Atkins now has online streaming audio on our website from our new audio-guided tours. You may listen to any of the stops from tours of the Museum collections, the Kansas City Sculpture Park and the Museum architecture.

Now, through the magic of technology, you may download the entire tour on your MP3 player and bring it with you on your next visit. Of course, if you prefer to do it the "old-fashioned way," the audio guides are available free of charge in the lobby of the Bloch Building everyday.

These audio tours are really great! I love having the option to listen to these tours on my iPod. Perhaps more audio tours will be added? I sure hope so.

I would also suggest putting these audio tours on iTunes as an advertising tool for the Nelson-Atkins.

Jodi Olson-Kidney:

Thank you for your feedback about our online audio-guided tours. I think they are great, too!
I will check if we are planning to expand the collection anytime soon and let you know.

Hilary Nordholm:

Dear ChrisM70,

Thank you for your feedback on the audio tours. We are delighted that you enjoyed them and that you are taking advantage of the opportunity to download them to your MP3 player. In response to your question, over the course of the next year, the remaining tours of the Museum’s collections will be made available for download on the website. We will also be developing new audio stops for other objects in the Museum’s collections which will be made available in the spring of 2008.

While your suggestion for making the tours available through itunes is a good one, we would like to maintain the audio guides as a free service for our visitors. We welcome any ideas or suggestions you may have regarding the audio tours, and hope that you will continue to utilize this wonderful, free educational tool.
