TEACHER NOMINATION FORM

Teachers: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Photography Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for area high school students who are interested in developing their photographic skills through participation in an intensive workshop with a professional photographer and Museum curatorial staff. By nominating your student, you are taking the first steps toward securing a space for them in this inspiring and competitive program. Space is limited to a maximum of 15 students therefore nomination does not guarantee your student admission to the program.


Teacher Responsibilities
Nominate a potential student using the following factors as guidelines. The nominee should:

    • Be a highly motivated upper-level art or photography student.
    • Have demonstrated a personal commitment to art.
    • Be committed to meeting the attendance requirements.
    • Have parental support.
    • Have access to the use of a camera for the duration of the workshop.
  • Coordinate submission of your student's application together with the Sponsoring Teacher form by the posted deadline.
  • Submit an application with your student's materials.
  • Participate in an ongoing dialogue with workshop instructors and staff via e-mail.
  • Attend culminating photography exhibition and opening reception.



Student Requirements

  • Secure nomination and sponsorship from a teacher familiar with your photographic work.
  • Submit portfolio samples, application and teacher's materials.
  • Attend all 5 sessions plus the culminating photography exhibition and opening reception.
  • Have access to the use of a camera for the duration of the workshop.
  • Complete final assignment and turn in on time in order to be included in the student exhibition.

The student application will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Secure nomination and sponsorship from a teacher familiar with your photographic work.
  • Quality of photographic portfolio.
  • Acceptance of the attendance policy.
  • Ability to attend all session dates.
  • Submission of a complete application on time.
