A Tactile Tour for the Visually Impaired/Blind: The Human Figure in Sculpture

ONLY available to organizations and schools with programs for the Visually Impaired/Blind. Tours are FREE, one hour and 15 minutes in length available Wednesday through Friday.

The day's lesson will begin in a classroom setting where students will discuss shapes and texture. Visually impaired participants will visit three galleries and be able to gently touch realistic and abstract sculptures of the human figure using gloved hands. The parts of the human figure, arms, legs, hands, and torso will be used to demonstrate shape, texture, movement, expression, and abstraction. Through the tactile experience, participants will discover differences in the sculptural mediums of slate, bronze and marble.
