ART + BIRTHDAY = FUN

Host your child’s birthday party at the Nelson-Atkins!

The party includes an art tour + workshop and children's birthday refreshments.
  • Ages: 4-12
  • Days/Times:
    Saturday 10 a.m. – Noon or 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
    Sunday 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Decorations Provided - artistic linens and colorful play plastic ware.
  • Parties to be scheduled a minimum of three weeks in advance.
  • Non-refundable deposit of $100 required when scheduling a party.

    Gift Procedures:
    • If gifts will be opened at the event, they can be brought to the museum either fully wrapped or in gift bags. Upon departure, a staff member will verify the items that are leaving the museum.           
    • Gifts that will not be opened at the event are to be in gift bags where contents can be verified by a staff member prior to departing the museum.
Standard Package includes:
  • 90 minute art tour/workshop led by a Ford Learning Center instructor.
  • 30 minutes for refreshments.
  • Cake + one flavor of ice cream with Gummy Bears and M&Ms and punch.
  • Maximum: 15 children and 4 adult chaperones.
  • Cost: $400| $320 Museum members.
  • Additional adult chaperones: $20 per person.
Add-ons:
  • Lunch consisting of pizza or hot dogs, chips, veggies with Ranch dressing - $10.00 per person.
  • Lunch + Goodie Bags for each child - $20.00 per person.
Art Workshop Topics:
  • Ages 4-5 - Curious Creatures

    Visit the galleries to see imaginary creatures that live there and create your own make believe animal. 2 adult chaperones required.
  • Ages 6-8 - Dancing Dragons

    Dragons await in the Chinese and Japanese galleries! See these magnificent creatures in art and create your own sculptural dragon. 2 adult chaperones required.
  • Ages 6-8- Me, Myself & I

    Look at portraits in the galleries and create a silly and unique self-portrait all about you! 2 adult chaperones required.
  • Ages 9-12 - Jazzy Jewelry

    See beautiful jewelry in the galleries and make your own pendent working with wire, beads and metal. 1 adult chaperone required.
  • Ages 9-12 - Mysterious Mummies

    Create a golden mummy mask after exploring art from ancient Egyptian tombs. 1 adult chaperone required.


Please note that no outside food, candles or balloons may be brought into the Museum.
