The collection of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art had a unique beginning. Only the most ardent historians among us know that at the time the Nelson-Atkins Building was being planned and built in 1933, there was no existing collection of art to serve as a nucleus. As we approach our 75th anniversary, the Museum is brimming with a collection in ten curatorial areas, spanning the entire history of mankind’s artistic efforts.
The Museum’s collection of over 33,500 works is the basis of everything we do whether it is a school tour, a special lecture or a gala event. We strive to present our collection in ways that will engage and stimulate visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
You can provide valuable and deeply appreciated support to this remarkable institution and its collection by sponsoring your very own treasure from the Museum’s collection. Your gift to the Adopt a Treasure Program will help to preserve and protect the Museum’s remarkable permanent collection, ensuring that it will be accessible to visitors for generations to come.
