Museum employees receive a competitive total-compensation package.

Staff benefits begin either the first of the month following 90 days of employment  (for hourly employees) or the first of the month following date of hire (for salaried employees).

  • Group Health Insurance
    HMO or PPO program through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.
  • Group Dental Insurance
    Comprehensive dental plan provided by Guardian.
  • Vision Insurance
    Coverage through VSP with no employee contribution.
  • Life Insurance
    Basic term life insurance paid at one times annual salary, at no cost to the employee. Dependent life coverage may be purchased at a reduced group rate.
  • Long-Term Disability
    Sixty percent of gross monthly earnings paid out, with no employee contribution required.
  • Employee Assistance Program
    Professional, confidential assistance with personal problems; a free benefit; through St. Luke’s Hospital.
  • 125 Tax Savings Plan
    Employees may pay for allowable expenses with tax-free money.
  • Pension
    Employees with one year of service and 1,000 hours worked in that year are eligible; fully vested after five years. Contribution is made by the Museum.
  • TIAA-CREF (403 B)
    Employees may set aside contributions to tax deferred annuities for retirement.
  • Paid Time Off
    Full-time employees are eligible to a certain amount of paid vacation, sick leave, family sick leave and holidays. The amount of vacation time increases with years of service.
  • Bereavement Pay
    Five working days per year for the death of an immediate family member or person in the same household.
  • Shared Leave Policy
    Employees may donate paid leave for the use of fellow employees who have exhausted all of their paid time in the event of a catastrophic illness or injury.
