Volunteer Opportunities

Positions for volunteers come in many forms to fit a variety of interests and schedules. Museum staff and volunteer leaders will provide training and ongoing support to ensure that you enjoy the many benefits of volunteering at the Nelson-Atkins.

Opportunities with Fixed Schedules

Visitor Services Desk
Staff this important information center: answer questions about the Museum, distribute maps and brochures, sell tickets to exhibitions and events. Discuss membership types and benefits and process forms for new and renewing members. Computer skills required. Training provided.

Coat Check
Warmly welcome visitors and check coats and other items. Answer questions about the Museum and our community with local and out-of-town visitors. Weekday, Friday evening and weekend shifts available. Friends may work in pairs.

Featured Exhibtions Greeters
Greet visitors and scan tickets in our featured exhibition galleries. Choose a schedule or schedule month by month.

Rozzelle Court Restaurant
Replenish the cafeteria-style service area in beautiful Rozzelle Court Restaurant. Three-hour shifts on weekday or weekends. Meal discount provided. A great volunteer opportunity for friends to enjoy together.

Rozzelle Court Friday Afternoon Preparation
Socialize with other volunteers as you roll silverware into napkins and prepare dining tables in Rozzelle Court.

Opportunities with Flexible Schedules

Museum Events
Welcome, direct and assist Museum visitors at special events during days, evenings and weekends.

Speakers Bureau
Give PowerPoint lectures about the permanent collections and special exhibitions to clubs, corporations, professional organizations and church groups in the Kansas City area.

Community Outreach
Build awareness and audiences for the Museum by staffing booths at fairs and festivals throughout Kansas City (usually during warm weather months).
