Docent in Gallery with a Tour

Volunteer Guide Program—Museum Guide

A Museum Guide at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a trained volunteer who facilitates learning in the galleries and creates a sense of welcome and belonging for visitors of all ages. Adults and college students are welcome to apply. Guides volunteer two times per month for three-hour shifts on evenings and weekends.

Initial training requires a commitment to six Modules that include education methodology, how to discuss art with visitors, and museum information. Training occurs Thursday evenings, 6–8pm, with a repeated training the following Saturday morning, 10am–12pm. Attendance is required at each Module but you will have the flexibility to choose, from week-to-week, which training day best works with your schedule.

Following successful completion of the initial training, ongoing training will be provided eight times each year.
