It is a celebration of life.

Its a celebration of life.

Its a celebration of life.

Its the foundation of a healthy society.

Its the foundation of a healthy society.

Its the foundation of a healthy society.

Art unites all people across all time. It reminds us that we, regardless of where we come from, our beliefs and life ways, are also gloriously human.

Art is fun and creative.

Art feeds the imagination. Encourages creativity and individualism. Art soothes the soul. Whether its through your hands, eyes, or voice....

making it is a righteous life... it pays the bills and feeds the soul

Art is not important. Its what happens to people when they experience art that matters.

Art is not important. Its what happens to people when they experience art that matters.

art is an expression of who you are. some people cant express themselves in speech so visual art is their way. its like seeing into someones mind. seeing what they see.

art is fun to do and to make and see. It can take you to places one hasnt been before. For me Art is also self expression.

Art gives us an outlet for our creative energy, without it we might all be crazy.

Art tells a story that can be told in different ways

Art is about storytelling with no timeline involved. The passionate story of the artist is spoken directly to the observer.

Art matters because it is the heart of society. Imagine no heart! What can exist without a heart?

my art is an expression of my soul

art is like breathing

ART IS ENRICHING AND UNIVERSAL

Was art invented in a cave? Some say God created art by making humans I think we are inspired by nature and need art to show friends how to behave tame society with the chair

ok

It is the gift that humans present back to the universe in payment for all that the universe provides.

art is the way the dead speak to us and we speak to the unborn. without art, were just monkeys with ipods.

Art is the medium of self expression. What cannot be spoken can be created.

Art lifts me out of my own small world and shows me What Has Been and What Could Be.

It rests my soul

When God made us He took dust and made something beautiful. When we endeavor to create something out of independent materials. We allow a piece of us to be given, explored and discovered. It always gives birth to a experience of refreshing.Art transports the soul which connects us to the spirit who made us.

Art reflects and defines our culture.

Art matters because it touches places that unreached by words. It starts a conversation within my own head and then with others.

It is the epitome of who and what a people are.

It is enjoyable and relaxing and therapeutic.

Why does art matter? One answer I feel deeply is connection with other people in other times, and the Nelson Atkins book on ancient Chinese inscriptions Reflections of Early China is superb for that. Another deeply felt answer, that of Abbot Suger, is that beauty leads from the ordinary to the sublime, or divine. But how might Nelson Atkins, and others, bring a better art experience to people in small towns? Might this perhaps involve development of a community of docents in these towns, bringing a personal component which complements the superb efforts online? Some sort of personal component is a thing for which I ache, after retirement to a fairly small town in Utah. And there are surely others, with much past experience of art and learning on art, who also long for such a, mostly virtual, community.

Art is Love!

I have a painting that I would like to get some information about! It is a painting/taxidermy piece and I have pictures that I can email you. Look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Ron East

Studying about art is a great way to join in a community of learners. There is a long history of artists joining in a collaborative effort to create art. It is fulfilling to be in a community with others who love art and seek to learn more about it.

makes me think about the world differently

To me art represents beauty, creativity and a way to enrich your life. I appreciate the artist’s talent and the time they took to create something for others to enjoy. I think artist's work represents a message to us; part of the joy of art is searching for that message.

Just in the time it takes to walk around the Nelson-Atkins many emotions emerge within me as my senses are drenched with creativity, form, color, history

Takes me away from narrow thinking & opens the door to all things beautiful & meaningful in this world.

Art is an experience, not passive, that opens a soul to breathe

it is the way in which we reveal our souls without the use of words. It is communication between all peoples no matter the situation or language involved.

Two years ago I had planned to meet two of my art-loving friends at the Nelson on my birthday, to enjoy the special activities that were presented for the Native American Art Gallery opening. Both friends had to cancel, so my elderly parents took pity on me & agreed to go. The art, costumes, music, & dancing were all wonderful, and they both loved it. My dad, who has lived in KC for over 50 years, had never been to the Nelson. He was never interested in it. But once inside, he was totally blown away! He just kept saying "wow, and all this is FREE??" That's why I feel it's important to me to support the Nelson. So everyone, of any age or background, whether they think they like art or not, can step into the galleries and get excited about art!

Art matters because art is the striker upon which the spark of creativity begins. When I see my grandchildren get so absorbed in becoming part of the Monet experience or hearing their squeals of joy at re-discovering an old friend, like the suit of armor, in a new location within "their" museum, my heart smiles. "The Nelsons", as my youngest granddaughter insists on calling NAMA, is consistently ranked #1 on our Annual Summer Family Field Trip List. Even above Kaleidoscope or The Toy & Miniature Museum!

It's like having an interesting conversation with old friends, new friends, and perfect strangers.

I am an artist art is my mode of communication. I would live in isolation without it.

My father owned an art gallery. An uncle of mine was an art professor. I've spent my entire life surrounded by art, and it has always uplifted me, astounded me, and thrilled me with the unexpected and gloriously innovative. Art shows me what makes people special--an illumination of spirit.

Art gives me a constantly fresh perspective to look out on the world around me. It also unlocks my own creativity - and making art it the most fun of all!

Art brings beauty to all levels.

When I give a tour to children, I am totally present . I get lost in the art. docent

We have art so we can survive the truth.- Nietzshe

Because art helps define us as human beings

Art matters to me because art, and only art, is the universal language of humanity. No written or spoken language can express the emotions or messages that art can.

Because it gives us a new way to look at the world.

ART MATTERS to me because so much of what society has to offer is ephemeral - art is timeless and yet of it's it's time. Art speaks to me through the artist's point of view and how he/she saw their own time/place.

Art matters to me because without it, life would be empty. It would be dull, uncreative and a total bore! Art inspires imagination to everyone! It helps people see things in different ways, and helps others understand.
